Mission Statement

Compass Rose is a custom landscape design company that aims to provide you with a road map to a successful construction project. Each landscape design features planting and built elements that are uniquely tailored to your lifestyle needs, the architecture of your home, and your budget. With a completed design, Compass Rose can be a liaison between you and installation professionals in the California Central Coast area so you can make your new garden vision a reality as soon as possible.

Meet Zach

Hello! My name is Zach, and I’m the owner and designer at Compass Rose Landscape Design. I earned my Bachelor’s of Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where I was told by professors that I had a unique chameleon ability to design for any style and circumstance. With several years of design-build experience under my belt, I would love to help you achieve your landscape renovation goals so that you may have a space you can be proud of and enjoy for many years to come. Our 3-Phase Approach

Phase 1

  • Let’s have a quick conversation via phone, email, or text to get to know each other and talk a little bit about your project.

  • We will review the goals and wish list you have for your landscape. These will become specific goals we will achieve in the design, and will be listed in the design contract.

  • You will receive a contract for the design work. Once it is signed, the design work can begin, and we will schedule the next step: site inventory.

Phase 2

  • I’ll return to the site to take measurements and photos and gather any other data necessary to create a scaled plan for your property. You don’t necessarily have to be present for this step, but I’d love to see you!

  • Using the base plan created from the site inventory, I will incorporate your wish list into a set of landscape plans.

  • (Optional) Sometimes it’s best to get a few ideas on paper before going too far with the design. If you’d like, we can stop and have a meeting to review the design before it is finalized, in case you have new ideas or want to make changes.

Phase 3

  • We will meet at your house to review the full set of landscape plans. Something doesn’t quite look right? Don’t worry, we can still make revisions after this meeting.

  • I can help set up a meeting with professional installers who will make your dream landscape into reality.

  • A lot can happen in the construction phase, and you may need help solving new problems. It’s good to have the designer with you to help make the best decisions. I am happy to check in on the installation and work with your installer as needed.
